Memphis Street Academy

New Kensington Community Development Corporation (NKCDC) spearheaded a community design program focused on enhancing neighborhood school exteriors. The goal was to turn a 100% asphalt playground into an educational and green landscape environment. Green roofs were proposed along with an educational nature walk and a rain garden. Shade and trees were also incorporated into this very exposed site to mitigate the heat island effect.
